It is Sligo Adventist School's policy, as it is of every Seventh-day Adventist educational institution, to admit students of any race, color, and national or ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs and activities generally available to students at the school. While Sligo Adventist School is operated primarily for the benefit of the members of the Sligo Seventh-day Adventist Church and associate constituency churches, children whose parents are not members of one of the constituent churches will be accepted, if room is available for them and they meet the admission requirements.

The school recognizes the uniqueness and individuality of each child. Our goal is to help each student find his/her pathway to success and reach his/her full potential. Accordingly, we subscribe to the Seventh-day Adventist church’s educational philosophy, which is based on a developmental approach to learning. It entails the assessment and class placement of each child through formal testing and observation as well as letters of recommendation, where available. Each child’s developmental (social, emotional, physical, and academic) and chronological ages are considered.

1. Children entering kindergarten must be five (5) years of age, chronologically and developmentally,
   by September 1.  
2. Children assigned to the first grade must be six (6) years of age, developmentally and chronologically, on or before September 1.   

New Student Admission

Parents/guardians wishing to enroll their child[ren] should obtain an application packet from the school office. Once all the completed forms are returned to the school, a date is set for testing. Depending on the age of the pupil he/she is given one of the following tests:

• Kindergarten through Second grade: the Gesell Test for Development Assessment.
• Second through Eighth grade: the Wide Range Achievement Test (WRAT) and the STAR Computerized Comprehension Assessment.
  The Admissions Committee then reviews the test results after which a letter is sent to the applying family indicating whether the applicant has been accepted or not. This process may take two or more business days, depending on how quickly the applying parent(s) are able to submit the required documents to the school. These documents include:
  • immunization records;
  • information about any medical condition(s) or restriction(s);
  • consent to medical treatment;
  • birth certificate;
  • application and policy commitment forms;
  • student and character recommendations (The character recommendation may not be filled out by a family member); and
  • a copy of a transferring student's last two complete report cards or some valid indicator of the student's last grade placement.

Parents of all new students as well as those admitted to kindergarten and grades one, four, and seven, must, within two weeks of acceptance and enrollment, provide official documentary evidence of the child having undergone a recent (within 1 year of application) physical examination.
