My name is Lulu Mupfumbu, the band director at Sligo Adventist School and also will be teaching Takoma Academy Chorale, Camerata, Band, Music Appreciation and selected lessons. For the last three years I served at Mount Vernon Academy in Ohio, teaching the same subjects. It is definitely a blessing for me to be serving here this year and I would like to take the opportunity to share some information with you regarding the band program.
As you know, Sligo Adventist School is committed to a quality music program and we intend to carry this tradition on this school year. My bands are designed to teach the skills and techniques needed to play each instrument both individually, and in an ensemble setting. The students will learn to demonstrate the ability to combine music skills and expressive playing. Each band will meet as a group once a week for 80 minutes and students will be required to put in additional time for practice outside of class. Students with no prior band experience (5th -8th grade) can be enrolled in the class if they are actively taking private lessons outside of school.
On a personal note my interests include cooking, traveling, being out in nature, anything to do with music. My goal for my students is for them to be excellent musicians who know and share Christ through their music, ultimately preparing for eternity with Him.
